Scammers are getting smarter every day, but now, Google is stepping up its game to help protect Android users from these deceptive schemes. Recently, Google introduced two powerful AI-driven features designed to fight back against scams that are increasingly appearing in phone calls and text messages. According to the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, scammers used sophisticated AI tools in 2024 to steal over $1 trillion globally from mobile users. And as scam tactics evolve, Google is using its own cutting-edge AI to keep users safe.
The new AI-powered scam detection focuses on identifying and stopping scams during conversations. Unlike traditional spam protection, which blocks messages before they arrive, these new features are designed to stop scams in their tracks while the conversation is happening. Google partnered with global financial institutions to understand the latest scams and to fine-tune its AI. This collaboration helps the AI spot patterns in text messages and phone calls, warning users in real-time when something fishy is going on.
For text messages, Google has expanded its Spam Protection in Google Messages. The new Scam Detection feature proactively analyzes SMS, MMS, and RCS messages for suspicious activity, sending alerts to users if a scam is detected. This protection works seamlessly and privately on your device, ensuring that all your conversations stay private. Scam Detection is enabled by default for non-contacts, and you can turn it off at any time.
On the call side, Google is fighting back against sophisticated phone scams by using AI to analyze conversations in real time. This feature, which has been in beta for Pixel users, alerts you if the caller tries to manipulate you into providing sensitive information. The on-device AI processes everything privately, ensuring that no audio is recorded or shared with Google.

These AI-powered scam protection features are part of Google’s ongoing commitment to keeping users safe, making Android one of the most secure platforms against scams. With these tools, users can stay one step ahead of scammers and protect their personal information.
