Following the latest developments surrounding Apple’s new iPhone SE 4, a new update has emerged regarding the anticipated MacBook Air and iPad Air upgrades. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman first reported on the possibility of excluding the M3 chip for the iPad Air upgrade, with the M4 chip taking the limelight. This rumor, which surfaced in late 2024, sparked speculation that Apple is planning a major change in its product strategy, with the iPad Air matching more closely with the iPad Pro in terms of performance. As mass production ramps up in preparation for a release between January and March 2025, these changes are sure to stir up the enthusiasm
Apple is set to refresh its product lineup in 2025, with key upgrades expected for the MacBook Air and iPad Air. According to Gurman, Apple could skip the M3 chip entirely for the iPad Air, preferring M4 chip instead, narrowing the performance gap between the Air and Pro models. While no significant design changes are planned, the upgrade may include substantial speed improvements, Apple’s own custom 5G modem and a revised Magic Keyboard, although it will not feature the aluminum top cover found on the Pro model.
Mass production of these devices has already started, with a release date estimated between January and March 2025. The M4-powered MacBook Air is also scheduled for release in early 2025. Available in 13-inch and 15-inch versions, the new MacBook Air will essentially mirror the current design, which launched in 2022 with the M2 chip.
As inventory of the current iPad Air and MacBook Air models dwindles at Apple retail stores, it appears that new M4-powered devices are on the way. In addition to these updates, Apple is also considering significant updates to its professional desktops, along with a smart home hub featuring a display.
The launch of the Mac Studio with the M4 chip has been delayed until the second quarter of 2025, while new iPad models, including the redesigned iPad Air and upgraded keyboards, are expected to arrive within the same spring release window. With a range of new Apple products scheduled for the first half of 2025, the companyโs hardware lineup is poised for substantial performance and feature enhancements, making 2025 an exciting year for Apple enthusiasts.
